Loofah is not a sponge from the sea, and it is not plastic. It is a plant. An ordinary fruit of the gourd family which, once dried, turns so mesh-like and firm that nature probably could not have invented a better scrubbing tool.

These pads are small and round, like little pancakes in your palm. Dry, they are coarse, but the moment you wet them they soften – and then you can use them even on your face. A little soap, a few circular strokes over the cheeks, the neck, the elbows, the knees – and the skin looks as if after a good night's sleep.

There are five in the pack: I keep one by the sink, one in the shower, and leave the rest for guests. When their days are over, they simply go into the compost. No microplastics, no rubbish.

How to use

Wet with water before use. Scrub in circular motions, with soap or shower gel if you like. Rinse after use and leave to dry.
